damn danielOmawnakw glanced behind him at the other tokotas, urging them with his eyes to be quieter. He was on the trail of something… a fox. A female fox. His ears perked up at the thought of catching a grown fox and her kits. Nightengale started to pant and whine excitedly, but one harsh glance from Omawnakw silenced him quickly. He heard Thasha start to sniff loudly, letting him know that she’d also found the trail.The tokotas followed the scent of the fox all the way to a river, where it then stopped. Omawnakw looked around, spotting some fish in the river. He considered dropping the fox trail to go fishing, but then though otherwise. Fishing was easy and they could always come back to it later. The longer they hesitated with the fox’s scent, the further away she would become. Omawnakw led the group across the river, where Nightengale picked up the fox’s scent again and let out an anxious bark. Omawnakw took the lead again and tracked the fox down. Once the scent had

stay warm, stay fedAmaq got out of the sled, almost knocked over by the intense wind. Thea walked alongside him to help protect him from the effects of the storm. He was able to make out a human-like figure ahead, and went up to it. n a universal arctic tribe language, he said, “Hello,” to test out what specific language they spoke.
An old man replied, “Hello. Are you and your group here to trade?” in Amaq’s native language.
“We are journeying to the Sky is Angry Mountains tribe, my home tribe, and we got caught in this blizzard. One of our tokotas was bitten by a fox and needs some more medical care. We also have things we can trade with your village.”
“Yes. I am Anik, I lead these people. We have had many good times with your tribe. We would be happy to provide shelter for your group. Please, hurry so we can get out of the snow and wind.”

balanceThe group followed the trail of blood. There was a particularly large pool, and Thea and Kurloz started sniffing it. Lexton and Amaqjuaq immediately tried to separate them, but their hate for each other was greater than their respect for their handlers. Thea smacked Kurloz across the face and lunged for his neck. Kurloz snarled and knocked her onto her back. Sivullik and Sigurd quickly separated the two and kept them away from each other.
“Okay, so we definitely need to do something about these two,” Lexton sighed, tired from trying to move Thea.
“Muzzles,” Amaq suggested. “Tie Thea to Sivullik, on the left, and tie Kurloz to Nightengale, on the right.”
Lexton did pack a few muzzles, because you never know what may happen on an expedition as long as this one. Thea didn’t mind, but Kurloz was not happy about it, and she had to get help from Amaq and Sivullik to get it on.

village by the lakeIt was obvious that the tokotas were tired of standing around and having heavy things put on their backs. Sivullik wasn’t as bothered as the others - he had the lightest load. His only job would to be carry Lexton, and drag Amaqjuaq behind him in a sled. Thea, however, was probably the most burdened, either her or Sigurd. Thea had all the food and water and Sigurd was carrying the clothes and supplies. Nightengale was carrying the things they had for trading, and Kurloz was carrying the first aid kits and extra stuff. But after the grueling two hours of packing and loading, Lexton, Amaqjuaq, and the five tokotas were ready to set out.
Lexton and Amaq had been planning this journey for a long time; they were going to visit Amaqjuaq’s home tribe to learn more about tokotas, and how to care for them and improve relationships with them. She’d just been so busy setting up the facility and acquiring tokotas that she hadn’t been able to set a date for the trip. But she
